Cyril Herbert Gorham entered the service of The Bank of Nova Scotia on 20 August 1900 as a junior at the Halifax, Main Branch. On 17 April 1902, he resigned from the Bank after enlisting in the Fourth Canadian Contingent for service in South Africa. In August 1902, he returned home from the war and re-applied to enter the service of The Bank of Nova Scotia on 14 August 1902.
