Text banking

  1. What do I need to start using Scotiabank text banking?

Your mobile's wireless carrier must support shortcode programs, as Scotiabank text banking uses the 88866 shortcode. The following Canadian carriers currently do: Rogers, Bell, Telus, Virgin Mobile, Koodo, Fido, NorthernTel, WIND, Vidéotron, Télébec, SaskTel, Aliant.

Scotiabank text banking requires pre-registration before usage. You can register from your iPhone or Android app, or from Scotia OnLine®. If you text a command to 88866 without having registered, you will receive an error message.

  2. What is a shortcode?

Shortcodes are 5-digit numbers to which a text message is sent to use an automated application. These applications include donations, TV and radio voting, marketing, purchasing of goods or services, and mobile banking.

  3. What can I do on Scotiabank text banking? You can check the balances, some account details and the last 5 transactions of your main Chequing, Savings and VISA accounts. You cannot make transfers or pay bills.
  4. I'm texting a command to 88866 exactly as you require but I keep getting an error message saying my request can't be recognized. Why is this?

Make sure you have not changed your text banking settings to automatically include a signature line, returns, or emoticons. These additions to our command words will void your request.

  5. How much does text banking cost?

Scotiabank offers text banking at no charge. Standard wireless messaging charges apply. If you are travelling, roaming charges will apply as usual, too.

  6. Are InfoAlerts the same as text banking?

They are different. InfoAlerts sends the notifications you have signed up for, by text message or email, at a scheduled time or when an event takes place. Text banking lets you view some balances, account details and your last 5 transactions in real time, whenever you want.

  7. How can I deregister from text banking? Text STOP to 88866.

Safety and security

  1. Is mobile banking safe?

We use a range of security measures to keep your banking safe. We also recommend that you use an access code to lock your phone for an added layer of security. View our Mobile Security Guarantee and Best Practices for more information on how we protect you and you can help, too.

  2. What if my mobile device is lost or stolen? How can I be sure my financial information is safe and secure?

Contact your carrier immediately to have your device disabled. Call Scotiabank immediately afterwards to report your loss.

  3. Do you guarantee that mobile banking is secure?

We do. We will fully reimburse you in the unlikely event that you suffer a direct financial loss due to unauthorized activity in your accounts provided that you have met your security responsibilities.
