Quebec Education Savings Incentive (QESI)

Right for you if: 

  • You are a resident of Quebec

  • You would like the Quebec government to match your contribution by 10%

  • Boost your RESP 
    The government will match your contribution by 10% when you make an eligible
    contribution to your RESP

  • Maximizing your contributions 
    Contribute a maximum of $50,000 per child and the QESI will match it up to a maximum of $3,600 per child.

  • Get more grant money 
    In some cases, additional QESI may be received based on family income.

    Eligibility Requirements to Receive QESI

    The child you are saving for must reside in Quebec as of December 31 of the tax year the QESI request is made and have a valid Social Insurance number (SIN).

    An eligible beneficiary qualifies for QESI: 

  • Up to December 31 of the year in which they turn 17

    • If your beneficiary is 16 or 17, they qualify for QESI if: 

  • A minimum contribution of $2,000 is made by December 31 of the year the child turns 15

    OR

  • A minimum of $100 is contributed during any four years prior to December 31 of the year the child turns 15

    • If a QESI request is made in the same tax year that the child turns 17, the RESP must be registered in the child's name during at least four years (consecutive or not) prior to that tax year.

    Eligibility to receive Additional QESI1 and payments to your RESP is based on the following Net Family Income amounts:

    $42,391 , or more, up to $84,780 5%

    Just make a qualified Education Assistance Payment (EAP) withdrawal and you will receive your QESI plus any income the grant has generated as part of the withdrawal.

    Your RESP can stay open for 35 years. If the child you've been saving for decides not to attend school, your contributions are returned to you and the QESI can be used towards an eligible sibling's education or returned to the Government of Quebec.
