"These 50 years represent Scotiabank's commitment to The Bahamas. We have remained in The Bahamas and we are pleased to be a part of the history of the country and to be a part of many people's lives," expressed Ms. Minna A. Israel, Managing Director of Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited.
According to the executive, one of the institution's major achievements during its 50 years of service in the country has been precisely its permanence, and especially loyalty to its values — "Scotiabank is committed to helping build the communities in which we live and work." At Scotiabank, we realize that we have a responsibility to assist a much broader spectrum of stakeholders, because the health and vitality of our Bank is closely tied to the well being of the communities we serve.
In recent years, the institution and its role in the community has evolved into a sophisticated network of branches providing financial services to Personal and Business Banking customers. Scotiabank's commitment to the Bahamian community is evidenced in its broad range of product offerings, its contribution to various charities and its involvement in various sectors particularly that of Education where 8-10 scholarships totaling $25M are awarded each year to students at the College of the Bahamas.
During the week of February 20, 2006 Scotiabank will be celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout its network of branches and units. To launch the celebration, management and staff will attend a church service on Sunday, February 19, 2006 at Christ Church Cathedral and participate in various activities including a Family Fun Day and Staff/Customer Appreciation Days. Rick Waugh, President and CEO and Pat Minicucci, Senior Vice President, will attend a cocktail reception to be held for staff and corporate customers. The Managing Director, Minna Israel and Chairman along with Mr. Waugh, are scheduled to pay courtesy calls to some of the government and financial sector officials.
Scotiabank opened its doors in The Bahamas in 1956, when it established the first branch in Nassau. In the early 1960s, three more branches were opened in Nassau and one in Freeport. Two additional branches were added in the late 1960s.
Today, Scotiabank (Bahamas) Limited has about 640 employees, 54 ABMs, 20 branches and 6 units, offering a wide range of retail and commercial services, including Electronic Cash Management Services, plus a dedicated Mortgage Centre and a Private Banking Centre.
